Recently, bitcoin poker has seen a huge surge of popularity due to it being a fast, reliable and convenient alternative to regular online poker. There are also now a variety of Texas Hold'em poker apps for Android and iOS.
Rules
The rules for bitcoin No-limit Hold’em are exactly the same as normal No-limit Hold’em. At the start of each hand, the small blind and big blind post their blinds and each player is dealt two face-down hole cards. Betting then starts from the player sitting to the left of the big blind, whose referred to as ‘under-the-gun’ or ‘UTG’. Betting then proceeds clockwise around the table. This round of betting is referred to as ‘pre-flop’. Once the pre-flop betting has closed, three face-up community cards are dealt in the centre of the table. This is called the ‘flop’. The community cards can be used by any of the players in conjunction with their hole cards to make a five card hand. After the flop is dealt, another round of betting begins. All rounds of post-flop betting start clockwise from the small blind. After the flop betting has closed, another community card, called the ‘turn’, is dealt. followed by another round of betting. Lastly, a final community card, called the ‘river’, is dealt, followed by a final round of betting. Once all bets are called, the remaining players go to ‘showdown’ and the player with the best hand is awarded the pot. It is important to remember that players can use any combination of community cards and their hole cards to make the best five card hand. If the winning hand is the same for two or more players, the pot is split accordingly.
Pre-Flop Strategy
In general, you want to avoid just calling the big blind, known as ‘limping’, in favour of putting in an opening raise. The earlier you open, the better the hand you should have is. So, for example, an UTG opening range in a full-ring game may look something like 88+ and AQ+, whereas a button opening range may comprise around the top 50% of all possible hands. If you have a particularly strong pre-flop hand, such as JJ+ or AK, you may want to raise over another player’s opening raise. This is called a 3-bet. You want to make sure you 3-bet so you get value from your strong hands as well as force other players out of the pot.
Post-Flop Strategy
Post-flop strategy is much more complex than pre-flop strategy. For this reason, the advice given here will be general rather than specific. The most important thing to consider as a new player is not the strength of your own hand, but the possible strength of your opponent’s hand. Try to avoid playing large pots with medium-strength hands. This is even more important if there are more than two players in the hand, as the more players there are in a hand, the weaker the relative strength of your hand will be. Making correct folds, even when you feel frustrated, is an essential poker skill. When you do have an extremely strong hand, go for maximum value rather than ‘trapping’, especially when your hand is vulnerable to being outdrawn. If you keep all these tips in mind, and keep a cool head at the table, it won’t be long before you are crushing bitcoin No-limit Hold’em.
Where To Play Cryptocurrency Texas Hold'em
There is an ever growing range of online poker rooms accepting crypto-currencies like bitcoin and litecoin at the moment. While Seals With Clubs was the first bitcoin-only poker sites, we do not recommend it because of the low player traffic. If you want to play anonymously then BetCoin Poker is a good option because they share their tournament pool with major operators like Americas Cardroom and Blackchip poker. Unfortunately, their poker client is not compatible with iPhone and Android but if you are a mobile poker nut then we can recommend either Nitrogen Sports poker or BetOnline poker.
