Cryptocurrency Omaha Poker

If you want to play poker with crypto-currencies and enjoy explosive, action-heavy games, we recommend trying out bitcoin Pot-Limit Omaha. The rules of bitcoin PLO are no different than regular PLO, so if you already know how to play, you can jump right into the action. If you don’t know how to play but would like to learn, we’ve written a handy guide on the rules of PLO as well as a few useful tips below.  A number of cryptocurrency poker rooms now also allow you to play Omaha on Android and iOS devices.

Rules

The betting action in PLO is the same as in NLHE, except that the maximum bet cannot be larger than the pot. To calculate the pot, you add together the money in the pot, any uncalled bets, as well as your own call. This makes a pot-sized bet seem a lot larger than the actual pot. However, you won’t have to worry about this calculation when playing bitcoin PLO, as the online interface will do it for you.

At the start of each hand, each player is dealt four face-down hole cards. One thing new players often forget when playing PLO is that you need to use exactly two of your four hole cards in conjunction with the five community cards to make the best five card hand. This means, for example, if there were four spades on the board, and you had a single spade in your hand, you would not have a flush. Likewise, if you had three spades in your hand, and there were only two on the board, you would not have a flush either. This can be a tricky rule if you’re coming from NLHE, but it won’t take you long to get used to it.

Tips

There are a few handy things to remember when trying to assess your starting (i.e. pre-flop) hand strength. Like in NLHE, any starting hand that has two aces is automatically a premium hand, and is likely the best hand at the table before the flop. It’s important to remember that hands are never really dominated in PLO the same way they are in NLHE. That is to say, in PLO, you will only ever be a 60:40 favourite before the flop at most. Double-suited hands – hands that contain two cards of one suit and two cards of another suit – are strong, as they have a chance at making two different flushes. Similarly, connected hands, which are known as “rundowns” if they are perfectly connected (e.g. JT98), are also strong. A double-suited rundown (e.g. KhQhJsTs) is a monster hand.

PLO is a complex game that is hard to master, but is has a reputation for attracting extremely weak players who are just looking to gamble. This is even more so the case for bitcoin PLO. If you remember the tips given above, you won’t have any problem making money off of the gamblers sat at your table. Good luck!

Where Can I Play Pot Limit Omaha?
